Running a Coaching Engagement
For the coach who runs one-on-one engagements, from the first yes to the last session. Send each piece at its moment: the client’s answers come back to you before you meet, and every engagement runs the same way from start to finish.
Start here
The whole engagement on one page: what you send at each phase, what comes back to you, who sees what, and where the Session Toolkit fits.
The engagement
An engagement from yes to goodbye, in five phases. Each phase holds what you send the client first, then what you run yourself. Add it all for a new client, or add one phase at a time.
Before the first session
Sent together the day they say yes: the welcome, the agreement they sign, and the intake whose answers reach you before session one.
The first sessions
Sessions one and two: turn the reason they came into goals that can be measured, and hear what the people around them would change.
Every session
The rhythm, assigned to each client once and used every time: the check-in before, the commitment at the end, your notes after, and the shape of a middle session.
Halfway
Whatever halfway is for this engagement: the client re-rates their goals and says what to change, and you run the session that steers the rest.
Closing
The last two sessions: the final ratings beside where they started, their plan for going alone, their feedback on the coaching, and the last session itself.
When an employer is paying
For sponsored engagements: the sponsor’s welcome and signed acknowledgment, the three-way goals meeting, and the sponsor’s check-in at halfway and the close. An independent coach with a paying client skips it.
When it is not going well
Reference for the coach, reached for one at a time: the client who is not doing the work, the client who needs more than coaching, and ending early.
